Assessment

Pleo is used by small and mid-size companies across Europe, often with a small finance team, that want every employee purchase on a company card and in the books without chasing receipts. It suits card spending, software subscriptions, expense claims, and simple supplier payments. Its published prices are in the middle of the market, and its main competitors are Moss, Soldo, Payhawk, and Spendesk.

Pleo was founded in Copenhagen, Denmark, in 2015 by Jeppe Rindom and Niccolò Perra. Net revenue for 2025 was about $145M, up 25%, with a loss of about $51M, and the company says more than 40,000 businesses use it in 16 markets.

It fits a team of up to a few hundred people that wants quick setup and published per-user prices. It is a weaker fit for a company that wants deeper accounts payable automation or would rather not pay per user, where Moss is worth comparing.

Rating by criterion

We score each of the eight criteria out of 100.

Sector criteria

Accounts and money movement70

Pleo does not replace a business bank account. The Build and Optimise plans add sub-accounts and more transfer rules, and eligible customers can get an overdraft.

Spend and cards84

Physical and virtual Mastercard cards, vendor cards for subscriptions, card limits, and approval flows cover most employee spending. Card limits and approvals start on the Build plan.

Bookkeeping and admin tools84

Receipt capture, auto-categorization, invoice scanning, and accounts payable are included, which cuts month-end work for a small finance team. Automatic VAT splitting needs the top Optimise plan.

Integrations and open banking80

Accounting system integrations come on every plan, with custom exports, categories, and tags. HR system integrations need the Optimise plan.

Vendor criteria

Product depth and roadmap80

Net revenue grew 25% to about $145M in 2025, and more than 40,000 companies use the product. Pleo still made a loss of about $51M.

Onboarding and support78

Sign-up is self-serve on the Start plan with email support, and live chat comes only with Optimise.

Pricing transparency84

UK prices are published: about $11, $19, and $24 per user per month for Start, Build, and Optimise, with a three-user minimum on the two higher plans. Foreign exchange fees on card payments run from 1.49% to 2.00% depending on the plan.

Contract terms72

Start is billed monthly, while Build and Optimise are billed yearly.

How this review was created

This profile gives our own assessment of Pleo to companies selecting a Business banking & treasury provider. The Fintech Index receives nothing for featuring a firm, for sponsorship, or for advertising, and Pleo gave us no payment for the profile.

The rating equals the average of eight criteria, with every criterion running from 0 to 100. Four address buyer needs in this sector, and four address the company together with its commercial terms.

Ratings are our editorial judgment, made from public information: pricing and legal pages, product documentation, compliance disclosures, and filings. Fact-checking took place on October 27, 2026. Figures reported in euros and prices reported in pounds were converted to US dollars at the Federal Reserve H.10 rates of $1.1199 per euro and $1.3375 per pound on October 23, 2026.
