Assessment
Acorns is used by everyday US savers who want investing to happen without choosing stocks. It says customers have saved and invested more than $33B, and more than $7.3B of that came from spare change alone. Plans cost $4, $8, or $12 a month with no transaction fees, which puts it at the mid-price end of consumer investing apps, and its closest competitors are Stash, Betterment, Raiz, and Plum.
Acorns was founded in 2012 and is led by Noah Kerner, who has been chief executive since 2014. It raised $300M in March 2022 at a valuation of nearly $2B after shelving a planned $2.2B SPAC merger, and it had 4.6 million paid subscribers then. It has not published revenue since, so any current revenue figure is an outside estimate.
It fits a US saver who wants to start small, add retirement and kids accounts later, and pay one predictable fee. It is a weaker fit for an investor with a large balance, because a flat monthly fee takes a bigger share of a small account than a percentage fee does.
Rating by criterion
We score each of the eight criteria out of 100.
Sector criteria
Acorns offers a taxable investment account, Acorns Later retirement accounts, Acorns Early accounts for children, checking, and emergency savings. Custom portfolios that add individual stocks and ETFs come with the top plan.
Round-Ups, Real-Time Round-Ups, paycheck split, and Money Manager automate saving, and the app adds videos and tips for new investors.
Acorns works as a closed consumer app. The pricing page describes no public data feed or developer access, and banking and cards come from a partner bank.
Checking and Emergency Savings come from nbkc bank, Member FDIC, and Acorns says plainly that it is not a bank. Checking APY was 2.33% and emergency savings APY 3.59% as of September 22, 2026.
Vendor criteria
The line covers investing, retirement with an IRA match, kids accounts with a debit card, checking, tax filing, a will, and life insurance in the highest plan.
Sign-up takes minutes, and Acorns publishes an education library. Some customers report problems with referral payouts, and Acorns replies to reviews on Trustpilot.
The three plans cost $4, $8, and $12 a month and Acorns says there are no hidden costs or transaction fees.
It is a monthly subscription with published plan costs, and the bank APYs are variable and can change without notice.

How this review was created
This profile gives our own assessment of Acorns to companies selecting a Wealth & brokerage platforms provider. The Fintech Index receives nothing for featuring a firm, for sponsorship, or for advertising, and Acorns gave us no payment for the profile.
The rating equals the average of eight criteria, with every criterion running from 0 to 100. Four address buyer needs in this sector, and four address the company together with its commercial terms.
Ratings are our editorial judgment, made from public information: pricing and legal pages, product documentation, compliance disclosures, public reviews and filings. Fact-checking took place on October 29, 2026.
