Assessment
Upvest runs the securities back end behind other firms' investing apps: orders, settlement, custody and reporting, all through an API. Use it when a bank or fintech wants investing in its own app and does not want to become a broker itself. The client keeps the customer, the screens and the prices it shows its users.
Upvest was founded in Berlin, Germany, in 2017 and is licensed by BaFin in Germany and the FCA in the UK, with an office in London. Clients include DKB, Santander's Openbank, Revolut, N26 and Raisin, and more than 100 million orders went through the platform in 2025. It raised ~$90M in equity in March 2026, led by Sapphire Ventures and Tencent. Revenue is not published.
It fits a regulated bank or a scaled fintech serving European retail investors. It is a weaker fit for a small start-up that wants a quick, low-volume launch, or for an app that only needs US shares.
Rating by criterion
Each of the eight criteria below is scored out of 100.
Sector criteria
Clients can offer stocks, ETFs, funds, bonds, fractional shares, savings plans and model portfolios from more than 100,000 instruments, and Upvest serves clients in more than 20 markets. Upvest says crypto is coming soon. Pension wrappers such as Germany's Altersvorsorgedepot and UK SIPPs are being added.
Upvest supplies the back end and the client designs its own app. Tools such as a portfolio engine for direct indexing sit in the API, so a firm without product and engineering staff will need a build partner.
Everything runs through one API with a sandbox and public documentation. Size the integration early, since launch time depends mostly on the client's own build.
Upvest is a licensed securities institution supervised by BaFin and holds FCA permissions in the UK, and it runs settlement, custody and back-office work itself. More than 100 million orders went through it in 2025.
Vendor criteria
Upvest has moved from crypto into stocks, ETFs and funds, and now pensions and AI investment engines. It serves more than 30 financial institutions, and the March 2026 round funds expansion into Europe's largest markets.
Integration runs with Upvest's onboarding team. A bank should also plan its own outsourcing review of Upvest before launch.
No prices are published. Expect a proposal based on volumes and the products switched on.
Terms are negotiated. Ask how customer positions move if the contract ends, since Upvest holds the securities.

How this review was created
This profile gives our own assessment of Upvest to companies selecting a Wealth & brokerage platforms provider. The Fintech Index receives nothing for featuring a firm, for sponsorship, or for advertising, and Upvest gave us no payment for the profile.
The rating equals the average of eight criteria, with every criterion running from 0 to 100. Four address buyer needs in this sector, and four address the company together with its commercial terms.
Ratings are our editorial judgment, made from public information: pricing and legal pages, product documentation, compliance disclosures, and filings. Fact-checking took place on October 22, 2026.
