Assessment

Ondato checks a customer's ID document and face, verifies companies and their owners, and screens both against sanctions and PEP lists, with each case in one dashboard. Use it when a business wants these checks from one vendor at a known price per check. A large bank should test it against its own risk rules before switching.

Ondato was founded in Vilnius, Lithuania, in 2018 by Liudas Kanapienis and Andrej Vistorskij, and is now based in London with its engineering team in Vilnius. Lithuanian filings show 2025 revenue of ~$14M, up 71% on 2024, and a net profit of ~$2.9M. Customers include OnlyFans.

It fits a mid-size online business in Europe or the UK that onboards both people and companies and wants self-serve pricing. A large bank may prefer a vendor with a longer record of tier-one bank deployments.

Rating by criterion

Each of the eight criteria below is scored out of 100.

Sector criteria

Verification coverage78

Ondato verifies ID documents with a selfie and liveness check, verifies companies against registries, and screens people and firms against sanctions, PEP and adverse-media lists. Check document coverage for each country the business serves.

Fraud and risk signals74

Liveness detection and face matching flag spoofed selfies, and screening keeps running after onboarding. Confirm in a demo which device and behaviour signals are included.

Case management and workflow78

All checks feed one case view where an analyst can approve, reject or escalate, and workflows can be set up without code. That suits a small compliance team that wants each customer in one place.

Regulatory fit76

Ondato serves regulated firms in the EU and the UK and covers both KYC and KYB checks under AML rules. Ask for its security certifications and where data is hosted before signing.

Vendor criteria

How this review was created

This profile gives our own assessment of Ondato to companies selecting a KYC, AML & identity provider. The Fintech Index receives nothing for featuring a firm, for sponsorship, or for advertising, and Ondato gave us no payment for the profile.

The rating equals the average of eight criteria, with every criterion running from 0 to 100. Four address buyer needs in this sector, and four address the company together with its commercial terms.

Ratings are our editorial judgment, made from public information: pricing and legal pages, product documentation, compliance disclosures, and filings. Fact-checking took place on October 22, 2026.
