Assessment

Liberis supplies the funding, underwriting and collections behind finance offers that a payment company or platform shows its merchants. Use it when the platform wants to offer pre-approved funding without building a lending business. A merchant shopping for its own loan will meet Liberis through a partner.

Liberis says it has funded more than $3 billion for small businesses since 2007 and works with 48 strategic partners in 15 countries, including eBay, Vagaro, Nexi and Clover. Its 2025 UK accounts show revenue of ~$84M and an operating profit of ~$7M, with a small pre-tax loss after interest costs. Rob Fairfield became chief executive on August 1, 2025.

It fits an acquirer, marketplace or vertical software company with sales data on many small merchants. It is a weaker fit for a lender that wants only a decision engine and plans to fund loans from its own balance sheet.

Rating by criterion

Each of the eight criteria below is scored out of 100.

Sector criteria

Product fit and underwriting78

Underwriting uses the merchant's sales data on the partner's platform, so offers can be pre-approved. Ask which products are live in each country the platform serves.

Funding speed and channels80

Distribution runs through partners such as eBay, Clover and Nexi, which put the offer in front of the merchant inside software it already uses. That channel is the main reason to choose Liberis.

Risk and collections74

Repayments are taken from the merchant's future sales through the partner, so a slow month means a smaller repayment. Agree how collections and hardship cases are handled before launch.

Integrations and reporting80

Partners embed Liberis offers through its APIs and journeys, and 48 strategic partners already do. Check the reporting on offer take-up and repayments that the platform's own customer teams will see.

Vendor criteria

Product depth and roadmap78

Liberis has grown from a single partner, Worldpay, in 2015 to 48 partners, and it has entered Canada, Poland and Germany since 2023.

Onboarding and support72

A partner integration is an engineering project on the platform's side. Ask for a launch plan and a single point of contact.

Pricing transparency62

Merchant pricing is set per offer and per partner, and no rate card is published, so a platform cannot compare costs before talks.

Contract terms68

Partner terms, revenue share and exclusivity are not public. Ask whether the agreement blocks other funding providers on the platform.

How this review was created

This profile gives our own assessment of Liberis to companies selecting a Lending & credit infrastructure provider. The Fintech Index receives nothing for featuring a firm, for sponsorship, or for advertising, and Liberis gave us no payment for the profile.

The rating equals the average of eight criteria, with every criterion running from 0 to 100. Four address buyer needs in this sector, and four address the company together with its commercial terms.

Ratings are our editorial judgment, made from public information: pricing and legal pages, product documentation, compliance disclosures, and filings. Fact-checking took place on October 21, 2026.
