Assessment
Spreedly is used by online merchants and platforms that take card payments through several gateways, such as travel, ticketing, food ordering, and subscription businesses. Its customers include BMW, HBO Max, Hopper, Priceline, The New York Times, SeatGeek, and Olo. It suits companies that want to keep card data in one secure vault, add or switch processors without re-collecting cards, and route payments to raise approval rates. Its vault starts at $750 a month, which places it in the middle of the market, and its closest competitors are Primer, Gr4vy, and IXOPAY.
Spreedly was founded in 2007 in Durham, North Carolina, and launched its global gateway network in 2014. It says it processes more than $50B a year in payments across more than 100 countries. Spectrum Equity invested $75M in 2019, and in September 2025 Spreedly bought Dodgeball, a fraud orchestration company, to link payment routing with fraud checks.
It fits a merchant with real payment volume across several processors and an engineering team to wire up the API. It is a weaker fit for a small store on a single processor, or for a team that wants a phone or contact-center payment tool.
Rating by criterion
We score each of the eight criteria out of 100.
Sector criteria
One vault and API connect to a wide network of gateways and payment methods, including mobile wallets, in more than 100 countries.
A single API and routing tools let developers add or switch gateways without rebuilding checkout.
The vault is PCI Level 1 and supports network tokenization, so card numbers stay out of the merchant's own systems.
Large merchants such as Olo, SeatGeek, and Priceline route payments through it, and SeatGeek has used it since 2014.
Vendor criteria
The Dodgeball purchase in 2025 adds fraud orchestration to payment routing and optimization.
Setup is API work, so plan engineering time and test each gateway connection before going live.
The vault price of $750 a month is published, but Performance Optimization and higher volumes are priced through sales.
Enterprise terms are private, and moving tokens to another provider needs planning with each gateway.

How this review was created
This profile gives our own assessment of Spreedly to companies selecting a Payments & acquiring provider. The Fintech Index receives nothing for featuring a firm, for sponsorship, or for advertising, and Spreedly gave us no payment for the profile.
The rating equals the average of eight criteria, with every criterion running from 0 to 100. Four address buyer needs in this sector, and four address the company together with its commercial terms.
Ratings are our editorial judgment, made from public information: pricing and legal pages, product documentation, compliance disclosures, public reviews and filings. Fact-checking took place on October 28, 2026.
