Mihkel Aamer is co-founder and chief technology officer of Lightyear. Before Lightyear he was an engineering lead at Wise (formerly TransferWise), where he met Sokk. Before Wise he worked at UBS.

Lightyear’s engineering focus has included a mobile-first brokerage, multi-currency accounts via Currencycloud, instant funding via TrueLayer, and stock trading via Alpaca’s broker API, while building an engineering team from fintech and incumbent brokerage backgrounds.

Lightspeed backed Aamer and Sokk as early Wise executives building Europe-focused commission-free investing. The Series A announcement is dated 14 July 2022.
UBS and Wise
He has worked in financial technology for essentially his whole career, met Sokk while building the engineering team at Wise, and worked at UBS before Wise.
