Larry Smith is founder and chief executive of Provenir, the Parsippany, New Jersey company that sells AI-powered risk decisioning software to lenders and other financial firms. He started Provenir in 2004 after selling his previous company, Response Data Corporation, to Metavante, and has spent more than twenty-five years building technology for financial services.
Earlier companies
He founded Response Data Corporation in 1992 and led it as CEO until Metavante acquired it in 2004. He also founded Kitewheel, later acquired by CSG Systems International. Those exits left him with experience selling data and decisioning tools into banks and processors before he started Provenir the same year as the Metavante deal.
Building Provenir
Provenir began as a risk-management software firm and expanded into an AI decisioning platform used for credit and fraud decisions across nearly fifty countries in Europe, Latin America, and Asia-Pacific. The Financial Technology Report named him among its Top 50 US Financial Technology CEOs in 2021. He studied at New York University and later at Harvard Law School. The company leadership page still lists him as founder and CEO alongside a global commercial and technology team.
