Joe Palmer is Chief Innovation Officer of iProov, the London, England, biometric verification company. He joined in 2011 as employee number two and built the prototype of its Flashmark technology. "Andrew explained his idea very well," he recalled of meeting founder Andrew Bud. Read our review of iProov.
Employee Number Two
A supervisor at University College London introduced him to Andrew Bud, who wanted someone with development skills to help turn a new idea into a company. For his first 18 months he wrote code, including a basic Android app, an API, and a core analysis system that used GPUs to speed up image processing, he said in a 2020 profile.
As technical director he built the Flashmark prototype. When Dominic Forrest joined in 2013, the two redesigned the system into the micro-services architecture that, he says, is still the foundation of iProov today.
Before iProov and the Move to the US
In 2008 he co-founded SoftForge, which delivered web-based e-commerce and secure information systems for the NHS and Shell. He holds a degree in Computer Science from University College London.
He moved to the US in 2020 to open iProov's North American operation as President of iProov Inc, based in Catonsville, Maryland. He returned to the UK in 2022 to lead the innovation team.
