Best for

Firms that sell online, SaaS companies and platforms at any scale that want a full payments stack with listed prices and excellent tools for developers.

Not ideal for

Companies needing the lowest possible cost at very high volume without negotiating, or businesses outside the 50+ countries served by Stripe.

Verdict

Stripe covers the full online payments job from one account: card and wallet acceptance across 125+ methods of payment and 135+ currencies, subscription billing, Connect for marketplaces, Terminal for in-person sales, card issuing and Radar for fraud. Documentation, server SDKs in seven languages, sandboxes and a CLI make this the easiest in this group to build on.

On standard accounts, pricing is published in full: 2.9% + 30¢ on domestic cards, plus surcharges of 1.5% on international cards, 1% on currency conversion and 0.5% on manually entered cards, with neither a setup fee nor a monthly fee. Stripe continues adding products. It completed its acquisition of Metronome in January 2026, and in August 2026 it agreed to purchase OpenRouter. Larger businesses can get custom pricing on interchange-plus terms from sales.
