From GCHQ to Ripjar
He worked at GCHQ, the UK's signals intelligence agency, and left with four colleagues, Tom Griffin, Leigh Jones, Robert Biggs and Jeremy Laycock, to start Ripjar. Ripjar's software helps banks, companies and governments spot financial crime, cybercrime, corruption and terrorism risks.
Funding and Handover
Under the founders, Ripjar raised £28 million, ~$36M, in 2020 in a round led by Long Ridge Equity Partners, with existing investors Winton Capital and Accenture. In November 2024 Long Ridge made a majority investment, and Tom Obermaier, a former risk chief at Citibank and Deutsche Bank, took over as chief executive. "It has been an honor to lead Ripjar together with our team," Annis said at the handover.
